The Pet Shop Boys’ fourth album was their first after their remarkable string of US hits in particular had slowed, but in notable ways Behaviour was their strongest full-length yet, showing the group carefully refocusing for a longer haul while remaining themselves. The heartfelt, crushing “Being Boring,” an ode to a friend of Neil Tennant lost to the AIDS crisis, made for a powerful opener, but in both its slower, quieter moments and its monumental ones like “So Hard” and “Jealousy,” their skill at electronic pop, ballads and dancefloor crushers remained unparalleled.
