C'mon Kids
1996
Creation Records
The Boo Radleys‘ follow up to Wake Up! wasn’t quite as dramatic a contrast as Pulp made between Different Class and This is Hardcore, but there was a similar implied dynamic playing out as a band resisted following up their year-of-peak-Britpop smash with a carbon copy effort. Another long effort like Giant Steps but with a slightly louder, unsettled edge at many points, C’mon Kids has its pop hooks and singles like “What’s In the Box” and “Ride the Tiger,” but there’s a more willful element too that almost makes it feel like it could be something released on the Elephant 6 label around that time.
