Scott 4
1969
Philips
In strict terms Scott 4 followed not Scott 3 but a recording of songs featured on Scott Walker’s 1969 BBC TV series; as the conclusion of the perceived core quartet of his early work, however, it earns the title, with its commercial failure seen as the lead-in to his early 70s wilderness years. His first album to consist solely of his own original compositions, its relative brevity belies its intense creativity, from the focused lyrical miniature of “On Your Own Again” to the simmering political protest of “The Old Man’s Back Again (Dedicated to the Neo-Stalinist Regime).”
