Fully Loaded
1974
The Phoenix
Excellent quality seven-track funk opus from the golden age of large-band funk, Fully Loaded by California’s Magnum includes super-tight dance floor funk and R n B jams incorporating Latin percussion, some rock guitar riffing and a hint of psychedelia. The band also slip easily into jazz fusion with their brooding “Witch Doctors Brew” and album closer "Composition Seven” showcasing their jazz chops, the latter a gloriously long series of solos, broken up by thick, treacly, homely horn breaks and rhythmic shifts, moving through space-age synth-flecked jazz funk and stellar percussion sections. With not a weak track among the seven, Fully Loaded is a bold, self-indulgent high-end progressive funk album.
