Quicksand

1993
Polydor

Post-hardcore in the literal sense — its members come from NYHC bands like Gorilla Biscuits, Burn, and Bold — Quicksand brought a punk rock rage to the world of alternative rock. Not that the genre necessarily lacked that, but the quartet’s angular anger stood out in a jaded scene. Their first full-length focused on finding your identity in a world going mad. Acts like the Deftones and Torche would pick up on the combination of prickly pop hooks and ominous atmosphere in songs like “Fazer.” Nobody else quite found the right mixture, though.
