Given the influence of 70s horror soundtracks by the likes of Goblin and Popol Vuh on their music, Broadcast were the perfect choice to score Peter Strickland’s Berbarian Sound Studio, a film about an unsuspecting British sound engineer drafted in to work on a shadowy Italian horror movie in 1976. A vivid cut up of music and effects (screams, stabs and the whirr or the editing suite) that create an astonishing listening experience which draws upon 70s prog, medieval music and proto electronica. It was the last recording the band made with vocalist Trish Keenan before her unexpected death in 2011 and as such her vocals add another haunting dimension to their final masterpiece.
