The Eleventh Hour
Evan Parker Electro-Acoustic Ensemble
2005
ECM Records
The Eleventh Hour marks the fourth ECM appearance for saxophonist Evan Parker’s Electro-Acoustic Ensemble, and it’s a superb one. Newly added to the collective are Richard Barrett and Paul Obermayer, both electronic alchemists of the highest order whose voices coincide brilliantly with Lawrence Casserley, Joel Ryan, and Walter Prati. The usual anchors of percussionist Paul Lytton and Parker’s soprano make it all so glorious. Anyone who balks at the idea of such a project might want to take a back seat as this album’s waves begin to crash. Its patient approach to constructing a mood is simply joyful to experience.
