Jane’s Addiction was arguably already set to implode by the time of Ritual de lo Habitual, pulling material from their initial demos and soon looking ahead to the inaugural Lollapalooza tour that was their (initial) hail and farewell. Still, if the idea was to go out with a self-conscious bang they delivered in full, with Ritual showcasing their widest variety of sounds and styles yet, from the strutting funk of “Been Caught Stealing” to the Bo Diddley-goes-arena rock opener “Stop!,” from the building epic blast of “Three Days” to the fraught personal sorrow of “Then She Did…”
