Nicolas Jaar makes a bucketload of records, and I cannot blame anyone for losing track of what he does (like me). As far as I can tell, these tracks were actually recorded between 2012 and 2017, and represent his attempts to work in a kind of Daphni mode, flipping funk and soul samples for space age disco tracks. Jaar’s style is looser than the British cohort, and he’s not super concerned about the tracks working as mix tools. Things surge up and blow out and go a little sideways. A good jazzing around town kind of album.
