Aphrodite's Child

1971
Vertigo

Mostly known now for being the launchpad for renowned synth wizard Vangelis Papathanassiou, Aphrodite’s Child unleashed their prog rock glory in a way wholly unique to them. This double-double-disc opus based on the most metal book of the Bible (Revelations, of course) had a distinctly Mediterranean feel to it, not too dissimilar from the stuff happening over in Italy — unusual instruments and women’s choruses and straight-up noise passages intermingle with pastoral jams like “Four Horsemen” and “Break.” The end of the world has never sounded so fun.
