Legendary shrieker King Diamond’s second solo effort after leaving Mercyful Fate was his first concept album (in a long string of them) and still one of the creepiest stories ever told in the format. This harrowing tale of the cursed La’Fey family sends chills down the listener’s spine, especially with Diamond’s freaky falsetto and the adept guitar work of Andy LaRocque and Michael Denner laying out the narrative. Although heavy metal and horror had long existed hand-in-hand, King Diamond took the symbiotic relationship and turned it from schlock to genuine scares.
