Microtonal reed player Joe Maneri, along with son Mat on viola and Barre Phillips on bass, yielded studio magic when they recorded Tales of Rohnlief in 1998. For this equally sincere follow-up, the trio throws order as bread crumbs for the pigeons on its cover. Words are meager substitutes for the delicate dialogues they produce, the meanings of which beg repeat listening to fully appreciate.
