Greek singer/performer Maroulita de Kol’s debut album aims at a pretty high and inspired goal: fusing meditative electronic approaches with songs inspired by pre-Christian Greek/Hellenic culture. As a listening experience, Anásana is in line with work by artists such as Lisa Gerrard, aiming at elegant exploration of forms as opposed to straightforward pop styles. That said, the opening “The Water” shows how her overlaying piano melodies can find a distinct catchiness, while the music but not voiceless transition between “The Witch” and “The Tree” is remarkable.
