Bad With Names

Released

Since playing under the moniker corto.alto in 2019 Glasgow based trombonist Liam Shortall has emerged as one of the leading forces in the Scottish jazz scene. His debut album (after the 2021 EP Not For Now), where he composed, arranged, and produced several tracks, proves that his talents extend far beyond his trombone (a master though he is, playing in several orchestras and with many of the UK Jazz scene’s luminaries). Bad With Names transcends conventional jazz, fusing woozy atmospheres, glistening electronica, neo-soul melodies, and syncopated rhythms to great effect. It’s a delightful listen, and the musicians’ skill disguise the complexity of the compositions, making all feel light and effortless.
