Nitzer Ebb

1989
Mute

It’s not quite accurate to say that Belief simply replicates what made their Mute debut That Total Age so noteworthy but on it Nitzer Ebb essentially does keep on keeping on with what had made them a spectacular voice in the emerging industrial (and affiliated sounds) scene. That said, there is some quiet variety amid the hard-edged brutal hooks and beats and hectoring – one of the album’s strongest singles, “Control I’m Here,” has Douglas McCarthy playing around with a murmuring purr, and “Hearts and Minds,” “Shame” and more just keep the party going.
