Black Metal

Released

It seems kinda quaint now, but this seminal slab of Satanic panic guided metal to the next layer of the Inferno with the unbridled passion of teenagers carving pentagrams into their desks at school. It opens with the destruction of a chainsaw, contains lots of words about the devil and blood-bathing babes and an ode to bad education that out-sleazes DLR’s, and doesn’t bother with much in the way of musicianship or production. Still, its spell is undeniable – when the music stops and Conrad “Cronos” Lant instructs you to “LAY DOWN YOUR SOUL FOR THE GODS ROCK ‘N’ ROLL,” you have no choice but to obey. It went over real big in certain parts of Norway.
