These instrumental hip-hop compositions (they feel a bit too involved and luxurious to just call them ‘beats’) are sampled from Bollywood movies, especially the chase scenes. They have a unique, hard-to-describe, sticky or syrupy quality. These loops tend to get stuck in your head, much more catchy than most instrumental-hip hop or so-called trip hop offerings available at the time. Some of the best moments on this record are not the chopped and programmed full tracks, but the unfiltered moments from the original films used as interludes, including the driving rocker “Ganges a Go-Go.”
