While not the first Scott Walker compilation of his early solo work – both Fire Escape in the Sky and the more specific Sings Jacques Brel appeared in 1981 – 1990’s Boy Child 67-70 was the first CD covering those years, and helped lay the groundwork for his return with Tilt some years later. Drawing on the first four Scott albums and ‘Til the Band Comes In, it’s a well-chosen overview celebrating his late 1960s lyrical and musical experimentation in the guise of orchestral pop, including strong rarities like “The Plague” and “The Rope and the Colt.”
