Brace for Impact

Giant robot anime and thrash seem like an odd match, but both require lots of metal! Unlike a lot of thrashers-come-lately, Colony Drop don’t limit themselves to aping the glory years of Metallica and Testament. They call themselves crossover. Sometimes they mean literally, like on

“Stand against the World,” but they also cross over equally with every other form of metal. Singer (and metal journalist) Joseph Schafer lands somewhere in between Matt Pike and Peter Steele – a unique approach for this genre for sure – and dueling guitarists Ryan Moon and Benjamin Burton drop ultra-melodic Denner/Sherman solos into the middle of the crunch of “Supplicants” or a Machine Head breakdown in “Remade.” Get in the goddamn robot.
