This SF duo only managed a few albums and EPs before the band dissolved in 2012. (Bassist Chet JR White died in 2020.) There’s a kind of chaotic peaceful feel to Girls, like something between Gram Parsons and Bright Eyes, though singer Christopher Owens is not as unruly a singer as either. It’s a gorgeous kind of American salad, sort of country, sort of soul, indie only because of when it was made. I could easily imagine them finding Tom Wilson in the Sixties and getting a slightly heavier rhythm section. A lovely record.
