California Sunset

Released

Written, arranged and produced by Lamont Dozier, the music of California Sunset remained doggedly committed to an authentic idea of ‘real soul’, despite the rumblings of disco that were happening in the wider world of black music. Eschewing the emerging rigid 4/4 disco rhythms, California Sunset was happy, proud even, to dwell in a romantic, retro vision of soul music with Dozier providing ten high-calibre, high-emotion songs for a band who had previously been Motown’s go-to male backing singers. A ‘real soul’ classic, and a high-class and coherent mid-seventies Motown project that deserves a fresh airing.
