Carlos Kleiber & Erich Kleiber Conduct Alexander Borodin Symphony No. 2 in B Minor

Released

One can only imagine the games of catch the father and son conductors Erich and Carlos Kleiber might have played in the backyard of their stately Buenos Aires home. If they were anything like the conducting on display on this joint album, which pairs their respective recordings of Alexander Borodin’s bombastic Symphony No. 2 — Erich’s with the NBC Symphony Orchestra in 1947 and Carlos’s with the Stuttgart Symphony Orchestra in 1972 — they must have been ferocious, incisive, hot-tempered, and exhilarating. All hypotheticals aside, sore arms were almost certainly involved.
