Child Death

Released

The beginning minutes of Child Death -- the second LP from Alec Koone’s Balam Acab project — sounds as if you’re wading through mud. There’s thick, gooey vibrations as you’re brought forwards ever trudging towards the eventual light; shimmering guitars and angelic choruses, and then drum machines pan around your head, and the bones of a pop song start to slough off all the mud you brought into the house. This is the magic of this album; balancing tonal shifts, jumping from idea to idea, seeing if it all more or less mushes together as a cohesive record. Which it does, oh how it does. The musical equivalent of dreaming, waking up, and finding yourself in a brand new dream, and waking up, and starting the process over and over. So lovely.
