Chorus
Released
Another compilation of odds and ends, Chorus is notable for its relative lushness – there are some truly beautiful songs here, relatively unobscured by low fidelity recording; there’s another in the “Popol Vuh” series of tribute songs; and with “Beach Red Lullaby,” perhaps Flying Saucer Attack’s finest moment, a quiet, Nick Drake-esque guitar filigree, over which Rachel Brook intones a mysterious mantra, as they’re both slowly submerged in waves of guitar drone, as though the song itself is sinking into quicksand. The increase used of technology here hints at leader Dave Pearce’s growing interest in electronic music and techno, something that’d come to full fruition on future albums. For now, though, it’s just another tint.
