Convening friends for a weekend together is usually a casual affair, with drinks, conversation, laughter, and ease. Perhaps having Italian keyboardist Gigi Masin, house producer Marco Sterk, and ambient guitarist Jonny Nash all gather in the same flat in Amsterdam for the weekend back in 2014 was for work, not leisure, but the end results couldn’t have been more relaxed and resplendent. Clouds captures magic in its eight tracks, the spark of three like-minded players from different backgrounds converging on a shared aesthetic. Melodic, unhurried, the trio imagine a world of everlasting sunsets adding warm color to the landscape. In an era with no shortage of ambient background listening playlists to choose from, with each passing year, Clouds feels more and more like a modern classic of the form.
