Conduit

Death Grips, Mike Skinner, Burial, Wiley, Throbbing Gristle, Exuma—these are some of the names that flitting through my head listening to Conduit. The name that seems most relevant is Mica Levi, Sey’s collaborator and a sort of north star for all this London-adjacent, unfancy spiritual experimentalism. This album is more or less a rap album that breaks into one of the most beautiful electric piano tracks I’ve heard in ages (“Eve”) and a live free jazz-ish quarter improv (“Response”). Sey is a withdrawn and melancholy vocalist, someone who sees things as they are and lets the differences make the difference.
