Crying, Laughing, Loving, Lying
Perennially under-sung even in his native UK, singer/songwriter Labi Siffre’s run of a half-dozen studio albums in the ‘70s are all worth listening to though Crying Laughing Loving Lying was arguably the best of the bunch. Siffre effortlessly blends various genres on here, making an LP that includes transportive folk songs (“Cannock Chase”), infectious pop hits (the original version of “It Must Be Love”), and rollicking soul tracks (“Gimme Some More”) feel intuitive and natural.
