Cure for Sanity
Released
Following the unexpected artistic and commercial success of This is the Day…This is the Hour…This is This!!!, Pop Will Eat Itself settled even more firmly into its unusual hybrid of Birmingham-area UK rock guys doing whatever they felt like with dance, hip hop and more on Cure For Sanity. Tongues firmly in cheeks on tracks like their World Cup tribute “Touched By the Hand of Cicciolina,” the band also touched on a social protest angle that would become stronger with time, all while detailing everything from a fear of flying (“Nightmare at 20,000 Feet”) to, appropriately for the 1990 UK Summer of Love, space hippie vibes on tracks like “X Y & Zee.”
