Following their out-of-the-park smash Witchi-Tai-To, saxophonist Jan Garbarek and company ran the bases yet again with this recording from 1975. What begins in snatches of a fading dream awakens more slowly than that much-lauded predecessor, demanding the most of us in the title track. Ups and downs ensue in either direction, holding the airy “Svevende” and the piercing “Skrik & Hyl” (a superb duet for sax and bass) in the highest regard. As hints of the Norwegian countryside rub elbows with urban cool, the difference between the two blurs like chalk on a rainy sidewalk.
