The Haim sisters brought the hooks almost ten years ago and put LA back into its glory zone as top down, no doubts, forward motion. There are always comparisons to Fleetwood Mac, which isn’t exactly wrong with the tight harmonies and quiet Wurlitzer chords, but there is a bigger chunk of workman Seventies and Eighties pop that the Haims channel: Starland Vocals Band, The Eagles, Billy Squier, Pages, Mr. Mister. Big credit to Ariel Rechtshaid for the range of sounds and quotes and Eighties savvy. Low-key think Haim paved the way for The Weeknd’s eighties plundering. This album also has like forty-five distinct hooks, and live, you get Este’s bass face. Really really really fun and wholesome in a way that little pop music is now.
