Dog Man Star

Released

It was a classic case of sophomore album blues, with internal band dynamics stretched to the point where Bernard Butler left shortly before the album’s release, leaving it an open question in 1994 about how long Suede might continue even with the quick recruitment of Richard Oakes for touring. But Dog Man Star was its own ornate triumph, exchanging the debut’s force of presence for more wracked ballads like “The Wild Ones,” “The 2 of Us” and the splashy conclusion “Still Life,” while still making noise on “We Are The Pigs” and “New Generation.”
