Duppy Writer

Released

British rapper Roots Manuva has always been deeply influenced by reggae and sound system culture, but on Duppy Writer (a collaboration with producer Wrongtom), he acknowledges the debt more explicitly than before, and celebrates it. His rich, chesty voice is a perfect complement to Wrongtom’s rhythms and production style, which combine to especially fine effect on tracks like the stagger-step “Jah Warriors” and the eight-bit-flavored “Chin Up.”
