Esperar el Sol
La Réunion drummer/producer Eat My Butterfly makes music that is naturalistic, lovely, maybe even a little naughty (see the first nine letters of their moniker). Following on from their 2021 EP, Labalamer, these four songs further expand their sound. The music feels both rooted in island heritage yet fearlessly pushing forward in the 21st century. Vocals are rendered in Spanish, Réunion Creole, and Malagasy, playful and purred, intermingling with shakers, bamboo whistles, thumb pianos, minimal electronics, cavernous bass hits. Seductive as the vocals are, the slightly-dubbed instrumentals are just as entrancing. The ideal soundtrack for a sunset wherein the jungle gives way to the beach and copacetic for fans of Buscubulla, El Búho, or Nicola Cruz.
