You probably never expected Stereolab to go glam, but there it is, on “Kyberneticka Babicka,” a two-part glitterstomp epic that reveals the brash minimalism at the heart of all glam rock. It was the first of six seven-inch singles Stereolab released across 2005 and 2006, later compiled as Fab Four Suture. This album seems to have slipped off the collective radar a little, but it’s hiding some undervalued Stereolab gems – the jaunty skip-and-clamour of “Get a Shot of the Refrigerator;” “Plastic Mile”’s sixties chamber-pop grandiosity; and “Excursions into ‘Oh, A-Oh’” returns to early Stereolab’s repetitive psycho-beat with confidence to burn. A quiet triumph from a group who rarely put a foot wrong.
