Family Reunion sees the long-time vocal quartet at the peak of their powers. Made up of mostly mid-or-down tempo, sophisticated, highly orchestrated soul music, the album features seven tracks with only one coming in under six minutes, the rich, intricate productions stretching out with lengthy atmospheric intros and vamps. The instrumental break and vamp in the second half of their hit ‘I Love Music’ courtesy of Philadelphia International Records house band MFSB is a particular joy. Familiar PIR lyrical themes of family, unity and the power of music fill what is a positive and uplifting soul record.
