Fancy Dancer

Released

Famously Blue Note’s first female musician signee, Bobbi Humphrey employed the Mizell Brothers production team to spice up her sound (and album sales) for a stellar run of albums that culminated in Fancy Dancer, her fifth and final album for the label. Close in sound to Black and Blues and Satin Doll, Fancy Dancer is the most sophisticated of the bunch, blending smooth jazz, Latin grooves and psychedelic soul flourishes with silky vocal hooks. Throughout, Humphries’ felicitous flutework and wispy vocals shine through like a sunbeam on park grass.
