Flowers Rot, Bring Me Stones

Released

Paddy Shine and Phil Masterson are Moundabout, and they are Irish. The vague concept behind this album has something to do with ancient stone monuments to the dead, which more or less matches the cracked apart and entirely deflated feel of this music. One or two guitars, an odd noise, and very intermittent mournful vocals, absolutely the sound of two drunk sitting on a grave. The first time I heard this, I thought “Oi mate pick it up,” and the second time I heard it I was hooked. These two are tuned into something real and present and deep and the lack of excess sound makes them a bit like a very quiet Spacemen 3 doing Irish death ballads.
