Gojira

2005
Mon Slip

"The Heaviest Matter of the Universe,” Gojira call one of the implosions here, and boy does it describe this supermassive black hole perfectly. From their sound (a piledriving amalgamation of Meshuggah, Morbid Angel, and Strapping Young Lad) to the subject matter they fire out their blowholes (global warming, mass extinction, our decimated future) they offer no escape, no respite. Even though their music conjures a Star Destroyer plowing into a planet’s surface, they control the impact the entire way down.
