From Nubia to Cairo

Released

Within the first few seconds of the festive first track “Sukkar, Sukkar, Sukkar,” “From Nubia to Cairo” transports you straight into the midst of a raucous, all night Nubian street party, just like the thousands that Ali Hassan Kuban played during his long career. Originally released in 1989, and later reissued by Piranha Records, this set showcases Kuban’s incredible ability to mix Nubian tradition with western jazz and funk, creating a fiery party sound that’ll keep you dancing all night. With its electronic bleeps and non stop bass rhythms, “Hanwil Tanza” is as close to a club banger as Nubian wedding music can get.
