GOOD POP
For the past few years, there’s been a quiet hyperpop renaissance brewing in Tokyo. A collective of producers, beatmakers, vocalists, and rappers have been weaving a tangled web of rapid-fire releases and collaborations. It can be a bit daunting to figure out where to start, but PAS TASTA’s GOOD POP serves as a handy summary of where things currently stand. Six of the scene’s finest (Amane Uyama, Hirihiri, Kabanagu, phritz, quoree, and Yuigot) teamed up for a celebration of the scene they helped build, each bringing their own unique talents into the fold. There’s everything from icy downtempo tracks to a wild screamo anthem featuring a virtual YouTuber whose character is a talking peanut man—but it all holds true to the sticker guarantee of being good pop.
