George Best
1987
Reception
The first full-length of what would be a remarkably lengthy career for the Wedding Present found the original quartet demonstrating the brisk rush of scrappy guitar-led energy from David Gedge and Peter Solowka that almost came to stereotypically define indie-pop for years to come. With Gedge’s distinct voice accompanied at points by another legend in the field, Amelia Fletcher, George Best also had some bitingly droll titles and lyrics to add, with “Everyone Thinks He Looks Daft,” “You Can’t Moan Can’t You?” and “My Favourite Dress” among the standouts.
