An album—tagged variously as prog or Canterbury or jazz rock and which occasionally lapses into the sports show theme acrobatics of the overwritten riff (always a bit like gnomes running around doing steeplechase courses)—that absolutely rips. There is good humor and beauty and a tangible lifeforce in here. Get past the comical bluster of the first track and treasures abound. “Lady and Friend” is such a banger.
