Phenomenal that this is just one person and a computer, which, of course, is the case in a thousand instances but this time it feels noteworthy. Iranian-American producer Maral has called her sound “folk club,” which gives you an idea of the Iranian music samples she uses, and her comfort with beat culture. What isn’t easy to imagine without hearing this is what a vast range Maral covers here, and how it sounds neither like folk or club (though it is worth mentioning that her vision of club music is pleasantly slow and sasquatchy).
