Heaven

Released

Nine tracks of exquisite late-night soul and R’n’B from the voice of Sault Cleo Sol, Heaven feels like a nourishing album, as though its warmth and authenticity could somehow improve the listeners’ health. Stylistically, Sol is confident enough to include Laurel Canyon-style folk onAirplane,” gossamer-light Sade-style swing on “Golden Child (Jealous)” and “Self,” swaggering late-90s-style R’n’B on “Miss Romantic,” alongside her intimate, confessional, intense soul slow-burners. Using constituent parts of jazz, R’n’B and soul, producer/collaborator Inflo crafts homely, welcoming sonic spaces for Sol’s rarefied buoyant voice to decorate with her dreamy, delicate songs, resulting in a frankly beguiling contemporary soul album.
