Released in 2011, this long-overdue anthology compiles the first three albums by the New Orleans group, The Meters. Drawing on the city’s second line drumming traditions, their Josie years pioneered a distinct brand of heavy funk, anchored by George Porter Jr. muscular basslines and the thunderous drumming of Ziggy Modeliste. Primarily instrumental, Josie-era hits like “Cissy Strut” and “The Handclapping Song” have become mainstays in soul/funk parties the world over.
