Humility in the Light of the Creator

Released

This 1969 album is a remarkable work by an underappreciated and under-recorded member of Chicago’s AACM. McIntyre was a Pharoah Sanders-ish spiritual jazz player who’s joined here by trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith, pianist Amina Claudine Myers, bassist Malachi Favors, and drummer Thurman Barker, among others, for two side-long suites filled with hoarse, roaring sax solos, thunderous percussion, and wordless chanting in a seemingly Native American-inspired style.
