Hunted

Released

Mile-high doom from the Mile High City, Denver’s Khemmis capture the epic feel of classic doom acts like Candlemass and Trouble while turning the lyrics inwards. The fantastical tales echo classic dark fantasy while working as explorations of the self and the effects of crippling fear. Something the band isn’t afraid of: traditional metal solos that liven up the trudging tempos and make their heaviness feel even more widescreen. Only five tracks but each one’s a keeper. Whether it’s “Above the Water”’s initial buoyancy or “Beyond the Door”’s nod to Icon-era Paradise Lost, Hunted provides a multi-faceted look into a well-examined genre that feels just as fresh as the brisk Coloradan air.
