Conceived for choreographer Michael Clark, Kurious Oranj looks awful on paper but is an actual blast. “Wrong Place, Right Time” and “Cab It Up!” are worth the price of admission. With Simon Wolstencroft in the drummer’s chair and Brix still helping write the riffs, the band is in a place where they sound energetic and bright even on B-sides, where they often hid their better songs. The studio trickery is also getting pleasantly fucked. Either producer Ian Broudie couldn’t say no to MES or maybe they just got along. I love semi-popular Mark and thinking of the CD era kicking in, The Fall moving longboxes at HMV.
