I Did It

Released

Wonderfully evocative turn-of-the-decade soul/funk album from Brunswick chanteuse Barbara Acklin. 1970’s I Did It matches highly orchestrated soul, pop and R’n’B with a solid rhythm section, layers of congas and some pristinely produced drum tracks that pop out of the mix wonderfully. There are fuzz guitars among the sweeping strings, the brass is big, the tempo either swinging soul or chugging funk, and Acklin’s clear, subtle voice is always warm and engaging.
