I Enjoy Loving You

A little known gem, this is a collection of soft, smooth, seventies soul, produced by legendary Chicago producer Carl Davis. It’s mostly ballads or mid-tempo soul with occasional more funky moments, with plenty of melancholy chord changes, fervent vocals and expansive seventies strings. The spirit of Al Green hanging over the whole thing as Qualls’ voice bears quite the resemblance to Green’s and the production isn’t dissimilar to Green’s Hi Records output either. Despite this, it’s still a warming, intimate and soothing deep soul album.
